Mark Twain (Sam Clemens): 'We should say "Thou shalt not kill" is too general, too sweeping. It includes the field mouse and the butterfly. They can't kill. And it includes the tiger, which can't help it'. He often had something to say about westward expansion, industrialization, the end of slavery, advancements in technology, big government and foreign wars. He made huge investments into new innovations (Tesla might have something to do with that), which brought him to bankruptcy. He declared himself an anti-imperialist. Later, he focused on human greed, cruelty and questioned the humanity of the human race. His mocking of Winston Churchill got him labeled as a traitor. Nowadays they mostly speak of him as a writer, journalist, and humorist. Pity!
